Less sleep, more energy? How so?

Over the last couple months, I have noticed I am sleeping less yet have more energy.  I have been thinking….what has changed?

I have been thinking long and hard wanting to figure it out.  What I have come to realize, is that the only thing that has changed is I have started using essential oils and supplements regularly.  That is it!

It was hard to believe at first.  I was a total skeptic about essential oils when I first started.  Yet I have to say that is the only thing that has changed.  My diet has stayed the same.  My exercise has stayed the same.  I haven’t added anything else to my daily routine.

I have gotten feedback from clients that they too are getting the same results.

So here is what I attribute my more energy/need less sleep to:

I alternate between putting lemon and a metabolic blend in my water every day. (now adding to warm water since it is freezing out!)

I massage my feet with grounding blend before bed.  I also put a drop of calming blend on my palms, breathe it in, and rub in on my neck.

I use Protective blend and Frankincense as needed.

This is pretty exciting right!

Struggling with food and weight is a doorway to wholeness

Our struggle with weight and emotional eating is rooted in our emotional body and belief systems. Extra physical weight shows up as a result of stuck emotions, negative beliefs, and stress. Weight is a symptom of a disturbance in our energy system.

Holding onto unwanted weight indicates there are stuck negative emotions and beliefs operating in us. We manifest the extra weight and use food to serve a purpose subconsciously.

Emotional eating is a coping mechanism used to distract or numb oneself from life, because in that moment, life doesn’t feel so good. It is an attempt to use food as a means to fulfill an unmet need or to escape from an uncomfortable feeling that arises. We eat in response to the energetic disturbance caused by suppressed emotional pain and self-defeating beliefs.

Our struggle with weight and our relationship with food is a message guiding us to take a look within ourselves. It is a calling to explore the parts of our souls and hearts that need healing. It is an invitation to uncover the emotional and mental pain that is not serving our highest good.

Losing weight and achieving a healthy relationship with food requires a journey and willingness to dig deep into our emotions and beliefs systems. When the energy and emotional body is cleared and cleaned up, the body will let go of the physical weight and a peaceful relationship with food will emerge.

Paleo Double Choc Cookies

Double Chocolate Cookies – I made these on thanksgiving.  They were so good I have been requested to make them again for Christmas.


  • 1 cup thick almond butter (Barney Butter Smooth Almond Butter recommended, or one with similar texture)
  • 1 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 egg, whisked
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • pinch of salt
  • ­1/2 cup Enjoy Life Mini Chocolate Chips


1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

2. In a large bowl, mix together almond butter and coconut sugar using a large spoon. Then add egg and mix againuntil well combined.

3. Add ¼ cup of cocoa powder at a time. Mix well.  Add all the cocoa powder and completely combine. The batter will be thick.

4. Then add baking soda, vanilla, salt and chocolate chips and combined until everything is well mixed. Batter should be thick!

5. Use a cookie scoop to scoop out around 2 tablespoons of dough and make into a round ball. Place on parchment paper lined baking sheet (or coated in coconut oil works for me). This dough will create 13­-15 cookies that size.

6. Place all the balled dough onto the baking sheet.

7. Place baking sheet into the oven and bake for 10 minutes.

8. Remove from oven and let cool for 5-­10 minutes until removing from baking sheet to place on cooling rack. If you try to remove these from the baking sheet early, they will come apart. Be careful.  Enjoy!



My essential oil routine

I am so in love with  essential oils.  People have been asking me how I use them, so here are a handful of ways I use them.

I use the metabolic blend or lemon in my water daily. It is great in supporting detox.  Metabolic blend supports digestion and metabolism, helps blood sugar, curbs cravings and appetite, and increased energy.

I put a drop of peppermint or citrus blend in the shower before I turn on the water.  It is a great way to wake up feeling refreshed and optimistic.

I use the calming blend everyday on my neck and wrists, as well as before bed.  It supports a deep sleep.  I use it as perfume because It smells amazing. It also helps with anxiety and emotional stress.

I put the grounding blend on the bottoms of my feet (smells like Christmas).

I use the frankincense  and melaluca on my face and skin.

I use protective blend (on my throat or feet, in water, or gargle with) when I feel a cold coming on, although haven’t felt that lately.

I use the citrus, lemon, or protective blend for cleaning. I put a drop in the dish washer and laundry. I also use it with water to clean the bathroom and kitchen.  Works awesome!!

I feel like I am just getting started.  There are sooo many ways to use the oils.  Next on my list are:  making my own toothpaste, cooking with them, and getting a diffuser.

Eating Awareness

To make positive changes around food, it is important we first discover who we are as eaters. By becoming the observer of ourselves, we can gain valuable insights about our eating habits and choices.

There are no right or wrong answers to these questions. This is meant for your own self-discovery.

Let’s first look at Food Mentality.  Explore the following questions.

  • Is food a guilty pleasure for you?
  • What does food represent to you? (love, comfort, reward, the enemy, fuel, pleasure….)?
  • Is there a lot of “should-ing” and “should not-ing” about food?
  • Were there rules in your family growing up about food?
  • What role did food play in your family growing up?
  • What rules do you have around food now?
  • Do you avoid a list of forbidden foods?
  • How often do you think and/or stress about food and your weight?

Awareness and acknowledgement are the first steps in healing our relationship with food.

How may your relationship with food be a mirror of your relationship with life?


Conscious eating

What does being conscious mean?

  • Non-judgmental awareness
  • Being present to your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations
  • Observing your patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting
  • Encompasses both internal and external environments
  • Invites balance, acceptance and choice into one’s life

Conscious eating is:

  • Checking in with your hunger and where it is coming from before you eat. Is it really thirst, stress, or emotions that are making you feel hungry?
  • Taking the time to slow down and relax before beginning to eat. Metabolism and digestion is optimal when the body and mind is in a relaxed state.
  • Bringing all your senses to the table and experiencing every single bite. Satisfy both belly and brain hunger. Digestion and metabolism begin in the mind. The brain must experience the meal for you to feel satisfied.
  • Breaking the habitual impulse to eat by stepping back and observing yourself. Check in and see what is going on within before reaching for something to eat.
  • Choosing foods both nourishing to your body and enjoyable to eat.
  • Having a balanced perspective of food as both a fuel source as well as pleasure.
  • Taking small bites and chewing well.
  • Sitting down to eat and being conscious of your posture.
  • Planning for regular meals and snacks each day.
  • Eating until you are satisfied or 80% full.
  • Practicing gratitude for the food you eat, how it fuels your body, and for the experience.
  • Appreciating all the elements and efforts needed to provide us with food; the earth, rain, sun, air, and farmers. This awareness demonstrates the interconnectedness of all living things.

A conscious eater is calm, centered, and aware. Eating mindfully creates a happy and healthy body. By following the guidelines above, your nervous, endocrine, and digestive system will function harmoniously. You will absorb nutrients more efficiently and burn more calories. Your body will fully circulate oxygen and nutrient rich blood. Eating can become a pleasurable experience. The result of conscious eating is that you will feel more alive and energized.



5 ways to kick your food cravings

A food craving is a strong desire for a specific food that if unfulfilled, produces a powerful physical and mental suffering. It is an intense, urgent need for a specific type of food. You know that “I have to have _________ right now feeling”.

Food cravings are often huge obstacles for many people that are trying to lose weight and improve their health. People are out there dieting, exercising, and trying REALLY hard to lose weight. But then those darn food cravings somehow overpower one’s motivation and hard work. Then what often happens is, after indulging in their food cravings, they give up on the diet, then they beat themselves up, and make themselves wrong for indulging. “I was doing so well and then…” is something I hear all the time.

Are you one of the many stuck on the “on again/off again” diet cycle? So not fun!

Here are 5 holistic ways to kick your cravings:

1. Sleep: Get 7-9 hours of quality sleep every night. That is a general recommendation. We all have a certain amount of sleep required to function optimally. Create a bedtime ritual. Give yourself time to wind down. Getting to bed at/by 10 pm is ideal.

Poor sleep and fatigue can create serious carb and sugar cravings. Sometimes that extra hour or 2 of sleep in the am is more beneficial than a workout before work. Listen to your body. Pushing yourself too much can actually push the scale in the wrong direction.

2. Eat a whole food diet: It is pretty simple. If your body is missing nutrients, cravings will creep up.

  • Eat a balanced breakfast/lunch/dinner including lots of veggies, quality protein, healthy fats, and whole food carbs.
  • Get in your greens, with every meal if possible.
  • Go for color – red, purple, yellow, orange, green, brown/white
  • Eat fat, extra fat – ghee, avocado, coconut oil, nuts and seeds, extra virgin olive oil, quality meats, whole eggs

3. Water intake: Drink pure spring water, 1 liter for every 50 lbs of body weight. So someone weighing 150 lbs should drink about 3 liters or 72 ounces.

4. Look at the Emotional Significance of your cravings: Our food cravings are often trying to tell us something and it’s not about the food. Food cravings are symptoms. We crave different foods for different reasons. We will develop a craving for a particular type of food based on what emotion is present (or missing) for us at the time.
