#022 Embracing the WHOLE Journey with Christa Orecchio

“The purpose of our journey is to restore ourselves to wholeness.” – Debbie Ford

What does wholeness mean to you?

When it comes to health and well-being, you can’t compartmentalize the parts of who you are.  You are a mental, emotional, physical and spiritual being.  A Whole Being.  Each part of You impacts the others.  Your emotions influence your digestion.  Your spirituality influences your nervous system.  Your thoughts influence your energy level.

As humans, we are on the path of understanding, honoring and integrating all these parts into one.

As Caroline Myss says,

“What drains your spirit drains your body. What fuels your spirit fuels your body.”

“The soul always knows what to do to heal itself. The challenge is to silence the mind”

“If healing required changing your job, would you do it? If healing required moving to another part of the country, would you do it? If healing required that you change most of your attitudes toward others and yourself, would you do so?”

In this episode of IMperfectly Healthy, I interview Christa Orecchio – a clinical and holistic nutritionist dedicated to helping individuals use food as medicine to heal from the root cause.  She helps people ignite the natural healing process of their minds, bodies, and spirits so that they can feel whole again.  She is the author of The Whole Journey Food as Medicine Cookbook, co-author of The Anti-Inflammatory Diet, and co-author of the best-seller How to Conceive Naturally and Have a Healthy Pregnancy After 30. Christa also hosts three health and wellness TV shows.

Christa has played a huge role on my path, both personally and professionally, over the last 9 years. She continues to be one of the top resources and referrals I pass on to my own friends, family and clients.   Christa is the ultimate expert on the super nitty-gritty scientific details of physical health and healing disease. She has spoken about them publicly, a whoooole lot. It was quite an honor to have her on the show sharing her heart and soul about her own path, and her passion for the mental/emotional/spiritual aspects of one’s whole journey in life.

In this episode, you are going to hear Christa share:

  • her story of a life-changing year where she discovered the power of food to heal physical and emotional health.  After transforming her own candida, thyroid and adrenal imbalances, she integrated all she learned and has been helping others do the same for over 8 years.
  • the importance of realizing there is no “there” to get to.
  • the impact your emotions, mind and energy have on your physical health.
  • her whole person approach to healing from the root cause of illness.
  • how primary foods – healthy relationships, a spiritual practice, a creative outlet, joyful movement, matter as much as what you eat.
  • how your physical ailments can have an emotional root cause.
  • why Spirituality has everything to do with your health and enjoyment of life.
  • how you are your own most powerful healer.
  • why trust is vital to healing.
  • simple ways to clear and recharge your energy body.
  • and SO much more!

What if your obsession with food is really a distraction?  If you weren’t thinking about food and/or your body all the time, where would your energy go? What in your life is on hold until you lose weight?  How is your “weight” giving you the excuse to “wait”?

Caty blends self-love, spirituality, neuroplasticity, personal development and straight up love and laughter to help women create real, long-lasting change in their brains and in their lives so they can finally be the sexy, confident and successful goddess they were born to be.

#019 How To Heal Yourself When No One Else Can with Amy B. Scher

In this episode of IMperfectly Healthy, I interview Amy Scher. Amy B. Scher is an L.A.-based author and leading voice in the field of mind-body-spirit healing. Her new bestselling book, How To Heal Yourself When No One Else Can was published in January 2016. As an energy therapist, Scher uses energy therapy techniques to help those experiencing illness and those in need of emotional healing. She has been featured on healthcare blogs, CNN, Curve magazine, Elephant Journal, Cosmopolitan magazine, OM Times, and the San Francisco Book Review. Her essay about her healing journey is featured in Elizabeth Gilbert’s most recent book, Eat Pray Love Made Me Do It (Riverhead Books). Scher was also named one of Advocate’s “40 Under 40” for 2013. Amy has presented to groups such as the Department of Psychiatry at Stanford University and teaches at retreats and conferences nationwide.

This episode is a special one. It encompasses everything I know, have learned AND have experienced around healing on all levels.  I recently shared about my skin and autoimmune healing journey on my instagram page.  In the post, I spoke to how I am following the food and supplement guidance of the medical medium (who is amazing, by the way)….AND I also expressed how the inner growth work has been the MOST important piece of my transformation. I know that if hadn’t done the inner work – looking at my emotions, beliefs, fears and so on, the food and supplements wouldn’t have been effective.  Going within is the truly the foundation for lasting change. It has been for me, and it was for Amy as well.

In this episode, you are going to hear Amy share:

  • her incredible story of healing herself of Lyme disease and a variety of other health challenges using mind-body and energy medicine.
  • how your emotions and beliefs can keep you from healing.
  • what the stress mess is and how to shift out of it.
  • what can get in the way of healing.
  • why deep down you may not want to heal.
  • the difference of holding onto vs. honoring emotions
  • the role fear has in health and illness
  • the root cause of ALL health challenges
  • how to shift into alignment with healing.

If you are struggling with your health, and NOTHING seems to be working.  If you are feeling confused, drained, and hopeless – let me know. I would love to speak with you and see how I can help.

“The Weighting Game” (part2)

More insights from reading “Dessert is Stressed Spelled Backwards”:

  • There are 4 types of dysfunctional family systems: Each results in a false self, meaning you don’t learn how to solve problems, relate to others, and there is a lack of nurture and acceptance.
    1. Overachieving – human “doings”, pressure to succeed, perfectionism, be a “good” girl, “what others think is the most important”, self-critical, high expectations, discount yourself.
    2. Judgmental – focus on what is wrong with you, make you feel small and helpless, never enough, have to settle for less, abuse, build walls with others, fear of trust so become independent, “don’t feel your feelings, don’t ask questions”, lots on control, can’t be who you are, crying is weakness, discount your feelings, bury your feelings is the only way.
    3. Enmeshed – clinging family, all about the family, love from food or money, no lives of their own, no privacy, no boundaries, no secrets, cant have your own life, you are responsible for others happiness, make mom and dad feel good, tied to family through guilt and shame.
    4. Distant- lack of emotional involvement, not much loving expression, no praise, avoid emotion, fear of rejection develops and they hide, no intimacy, not prepared for life.

The Drama of Struggle

Whether the struggle be food, body, money, relationships…the drama of the struggle is draining.

See it, understand how the story was “serving you”, then drop it.

I had to spend almost a grand $ on my car this week. In the past. I would have gotten all upset, bent out of shape over it, and thrown myself a pity party.

This time, no. I decided to not let it gut me, throw me off. Wasting my energy there would be disempowering.
